Introduction

is a central character in Suikoden I who also appears in Suikoden II. The guardian of Tir McDohl and a servant of the McDohl household, Gremio is currently travelling on a journey with Tir.

Biography

A soldier who served under Teo McDohl during the Succession War, Gremio pledged his loyalty and life to Teo when the latter saved Gremio's life in the midst of battle. Following the Succession
War, Gremio worked in the McDohl household, helping to raise young Tir McDohl due to his father's frequent absences.
When the young Tir was kidnapped by Mt. Tigerwolf bandits during the Succession War, hired by Geil Rugner, Gremio rescued Tir, hacking the bandits responsible to death. After rescuing Tir, Gremio engraved the words, "I will always protect young master," on his axe, giving his axe the name "Axe of the Oath".^[1]
Although skeptical of the Toran Liberation Army, Gremio's loyalty to Tir outweighed his loyalty to the corrupt Imperial system and so Gremio followed Tir throughout the Liberation War until sacrificing his life at Soniere Prison, protecting Tir and his companions from Milich Oppenheimer's man-eating spores.
Prior to the end of the war, however, Gremio was miraculously restored to life by the combined powers of Leknaat's half of the Gate Rune and the power of the 108 Stars of Destiny. A visibly shocked Gremio then resumed his place in the Liberation Army until the end of the war. After the fall of the Scarlet Moon Empire, Gremio stayed with Tir when the latter left on a journey.
The pair eventually stopped off in Banner for a brief spell where the two became involved in an incident along with Riou, leader of the Allied Army, and Ko, a young local boy who had gotten lost in the Banner Pass. Aiding Riou, Gremio and Tir eventually rescued the child from bandits and monsters, taking him to Gregminster for treatment.
A master cook, Gremio specializes in stew and gave Hai Yo (Seiryu) one of his special recipes in preparation for a cook-off. Gremio and Tir remained in Gregminster until after the Dunan Unification War when they both set off again on a journey.
