Introduction
Riou  is the main character of Suikoden II. He also makes cameos in various fashions in both Suikogaiden Volume 1 and Suikogaiden Volume 2. He's a adopted sson of Genkaku (appeared in suikoden 1). and he have a sister. her name is  Nanami. and Riou is a close friend of Jowy Atreides (Blight).

The Early Days 

An orphan adopted by Genkaku, Riou is the younger step-brother of Nanami and as such, was coddled by her since childhood. He was trained by Genkaku in the use of the tonfa and grew to become a formidable martial artist under his training

.Separation and Reunion

 After Genkaku's death, Riou joined the Highland Army alongside his friend, Jowy Atreides, after plans to reopen the dojo to make money fell through. Following the massacre of the Unicorn Brigade, Riou washed up in Jowston where he was captured by Viktor and Flik. Eventually escaping with the help of Jowy, Riou returned to Kyaro where he and Nanami decided to flee Highland before being accused of playing a part in the attack. However, the two were captured along with Jowy and were sentenced to death. Luckily, Viktor and Flik rescued the trio and they fled to Jowston eventually helping Muse in their struggles against Highland. During this time, Riou became the bearer of the Bright Shield Rune, one half of the Rune of Beginning, one of the 27 True Runes, while Jowy gained the other half, the Black Sword Rune.

Acceptance of a New Path

 Hurt at Jowy's betrayal of the City-State with the assassination of Lady Anabelle, Riou and Nanami fled to South Window Principality, with Riou eventually being propelled to the position of leader of the Allied Army, following the routing of Solon Jhee's 2nd Royal Highland Army, despite Nanami's protests. Several times during the Dunan Unification War, Nanami attempted to persuade Riou to step down as leader, listing all of the other capable officers that could lead in his place. However, it was these capable officers along with Riou's personality that allowed the army to flourish as it did.

A Turn for the Worst

 An active leader, Riou involved himself in every important battle of the Dunan Unification War, tending to strictly follow the advice of his comrades and strategists. During the Allied Army's siege on Rockaxe towards the conclusion of the war, Nanami was seriously wounded by an arrow fired by Gorudo's White Knights. She was rushed back to North Window Castle where she was pronounced dead by Doctor Huan. However, this was a ploy to allow Nanami to get away from the war, not wanting to watch her brother or her friend suffer from fighting each other. She secretly returned to Kyaro for the duration of the war.

Roecnciliation

 After the fall of L'Renouille, Riou journeyed to Tenzan Pass, where Jowy was waiting as per their promise made at the pass when they were both members of the Unicorn Brigade. The two duelled, with Riou refusing to strike, taking several harsh blows from Jowy before the latter collapsed, dying from his overuse of his Black Sword Rune. However, Leknaat appeared and by using the power of the Stars of Destiny, healed Jowy's body, ending the conflict. The two returned to Kyaro where they were reunited with Nanami who both Jowy and Riou thought had perished at Rockaxe. With the three best friends reunited at last, the group set off on a journey to see the world.
